Strategy

Project staff, planners and engineers are working together to develop solutions utilizing the following strategies:

Off Stream Storage
Off stream storage may include a regulation and storage facility on Duck Creek. Conceptually, the off stream storage reservoir could be supplied via diversions through a tunneled pipeline from Pardee or Camanche Reservoirs.

Strategy Benefit:
Environmental impacts associated with flooding high-value riparian habitat and wetlands are significantly reduced.

Direct River Diversions
Diversions from the Mokelumne and Calaveras Rivers may be implemented when floodwaters are flowing and therefore are available.

Strategy Benefit:
Capturing floodwaters for use by local cities and water agencies is creating new supplies from waters normally lost to downstream uses.

Other Options
A variety of strategies may be integrated into the project including supply projects, delta diversions and/or brackish groundwater desalinization.
